Abstract

The new technology includes a process to reduce/avoid thread pulling during the automatic gluing of components.

background

Incorrectly applied adhesive causes soiling (e.g. stringing), which often has to be removed by hand. Previous methods of reducing thread tension (e.g. “snuff back” valves or cutting the thread with a wire) have significant disadvantages. For example, they are only suitable for a limited number of adhesives or they only reduce thread pulling insignificantly.

Innovation / Solution

The new process enables a clean application and shorter cycle times. Reworking is completely eliminated. Thus, a significant cost saving compared to conventional solutions can be realized. The thread breakage at the adhesive nozzle is controlled: For this purpose, the adhesive nozzle is equipped with an additional, ring-shaped compressed air nozzle. By applying a compressed air pulse after the conveying process is finished, the shear rate is increased for a short time and the thread is cut. By shifting the location of the thread breakage into the nozzle, additional equipment for cleaning the nozzle is no longer required. Fig. 1 shows the nozzle attachment for automatic yarn breakage.
